Hana and Helena successfully admitted to kindergarten and elementary school

I ran on Petra, a mom of two little girls, by accident when we went for a walk with our kids from preschool club. We started to talk and after a brief moment I found out that she and the girls recently moved back to Czech from England. Being new in the Czech school system, we arranged a meeting at her place, to explain how things work. I immediately accepted her older daughter in the preschool club, the younger followed soon after. Both girls had troubles speaking – their language was a mixture of English, Slovak, Czech and German.

In the preschool club, we have managed to prepare Helena for the switch from preschool club to a normal kindergarten. She quickly fitted in and in the end of the year, she passed the admission exam for the elementary school. Hana, her younger sister, followed Helena’s lead and was admitted in the kindergarten.

Sometimes, the children need only a short time to adapt to the new environment and integrate in the educational system. Thanks to the thorough preparation of our preschool club workers, the girls had easier start in both of the institution, kindergarten and school.

About us

People in Need has been helping people in the Czech Republic and abroad for more than 25 years. We build schools, fresh water sources and medical facilities in Africa. We help victims of armed conflicts and defend human rights. We have been there to lend a hand during every flood in the Czech Republic, and often abroad as well. We created an international One World film festival that focuses on human rights documentaries. At home, we provide social services and help students and teachers in more than 3,600 Czech schools. In November 2014, we launched A Better School for Everyone campaign, with which we want to show Czech and foreign donors that supporting educational programs in the Czech Republic simply makes sense.
